News reports state that the Ministry of Health, led by CS Nakumicha, is facing criticism following the discovery of information on the purchase of HIV test kits. The test kits' procurement and distribution to counties without proper monitoring of their production and expiration dates has been questioned by vocal MPs under the committee of health. "We implore Harry Kimtai, the Principal Secretary of Medical Services, to provide clarification regarding the procurement and tender awarding process, as it appears that due process was not adhered to," Kibagendi stated. Revealed: New Prices of Bread, Chips, Mandazi, Chapati, Soap Incase New Tax Proposals Are Adopted

There is a new proposal to increase taxes to some sectors and this is likely to see the prices of products that depend on edible oils go up. The Finance bill coming up will be heated as well, because of some of the clauses in it, that manufacturer's and wananchi are lamenting that will make life more expensive. Some of the commodities whose prices are set to go up in the proposed taxes include bread. The price of this basic commodity will most likely go from shs 70 to 80. That is for a 400g.The long bars of soap will rise from 180 shs to 270shs. Chapati and mandazi will also go up with somewhat same prices of about five ot ten shillings since they are made from edible oils as well. Chips will probably rise by 20shs from 80 to 100, same as biscuits that will most likely go from 120 to 150 shs. Margarine and cooking oil prices will also generally go up.
